The PMS Exams is the entrance test for recruitment of different positions in various departments of Government of the Punjab. The test is conducted by the Public Service Commission, Punjab (PSC) which was established in Pakistan in 1937 to conduct exams and interview for recruitment to various posts in civil services.

The PMS Exams are conducted entirely on a merit basis with no discrimination and reservation on the basis of gender, province or any other factor. The application forms are available at the official website of PSC, Punjab.

Candidates must fill in the form completely and send it along with a bank draft of Rs 400/= as application fee to Secretary Public Service Commission, Lahore before the deadline.

Syllabus And Subjects Of PMS Examinations

Provincial Management Service PMS Examinations consist of a total of 1400 marks.

Written Test: 1200 Marks

(Compulsory and Optional Subjects)

Viva Voce: 200 Marks

(Psychological assessment and interview)

There is a total:

  • Six 6 compulsory subjects
  • Three 3 optional subjects

Syllabus Of Compulsory Subjects

Each compulsory subject carries 100 marks making a total of 600 marks.

There is one paper for each subject making a sum of six papers.

The compulsory subjects of Subjective type are:-

  • English Essay (An essay on one of the many specified topics)
  • English (comprises of précis writing, Urdu to English translation, composition and uses of idioms)
  • Urdu (comprises of essay writing, précis, explanation of poetic verses, English to Utdu translation, idioms and usage of idioms)

The compulsory subjects of Subjective and Objective type are:-

  • Islamic Studies / Ethics (for Non- Muslim candidates)
  • Pakistan Studies

The compulsory subjects of Objective type are:-

  • General Knowledge

Syllabus Of Optional Subjects

Each optional subject carries 200 marks making a total of 600 marks.

There is one paper for each subject making a sum of three papers.

Total 7 groups are given in syllabus by PPSC. Candidates have to choose 3 three subjects from the following 30 subjects but only one subject can be opted/ chosen from one group.

Psychological assessment and interview of the candidate carries 200 marks.

The Total Sum

compulsory subjects + optional subjects in psychological assessment and interview = 1400

Criteria For Passing The PMS Exams

The questions given in the papers are of the graduate level. Thus,

  • Candidate has to obtain 40% in each paper (40 marks out of 100 marks for compulsory subjects and 80 marks out of 200 marks for optional subjects ).
  • To qualify for the interview, a candidate has to obtain 50% marks in total written test ( 600 marks out of 1200 marks combining both compulsory and optional subjects)
  • A candidate has to obtain 50% in the interview to succeed for the final merit list ( 100 marks out of 200 marks).

Tips To Ace PMS Exams

  • Attempt all the papers in English except Urdu (compulsory or optional)
  • During your graduation, try to choose those subjects which you want to opt in PMS exams or

Opt for those subjects in PMS Exams which you have already studied during your graduation.

  • Choose those subjects, for which you have a background of.
  • Keep up to date about the current affairs, Islam, Pakistan and general knowledge.
  • Learn creative writing
  • Know more of general knowledge
  • Past papers are of great help. Try solving as many as you can.
  • Through the past papers, try managing your time and practice attempting each question in time.
  • Improve grammar and vocabulary by reading newspapers and books.
  • CNN and BBC channels help a lot in the development of vocabulary. Watch them daily.
  • Read the newspaper daily in English and Urdu.
