Creating a Personal Website: A Complete Guide

SHARE:

There's a whole lot of reasons to create your own personal website. Here are great reasons to build one, as well as a look at some other benefits you may not have considered. This is a list of some of the tools I use for my freelance work and YouTube channel.

If you're looking to grow your network, to stand out as a professional, or to make your career more tenable, then you might want to consider building yourself a personal website. There is a lot of advice out there on how to build a personal website. You may also be interested in the software I use for Windows, Mac, smartphones, and tablets.

These are great resources that can help you if you're looking for cues on how to set up your homepage. But I am here to tell you that these resources don't quite give you the whole picture. There is one large hiccup in the plan that they don't speak about: No one is waiting for you to build your website.

Thus, it's a little hard for them to come across it. Building a personal website is a great way to express your individuality and personality. You'll have a professional online resume that doesn't look like the one everybody else has. Plus, it's great for keeping you on top of things since you'll log in to update it every day (no more being late with those updates).

A personal website is a professionally designed (or semi-professionally designed) web page that's available to anyone and everyone on the internet.

Anyone can find your personal website address, then click on it to get your information, photos, resume, or portfolio. Unlike a resume, you can keep your personal website updated with new information or update the content over time.

You can think of your personal website as your online calling card; it's your more professional resume. If they see your website, they are more likely to remember you. Websites are completely different from resumes.

A website can fix everything wrong with resumes. It would be like shooting yourself in the foot if you don't have a website - it's so helpful.

4 Reasons Why You Need to Make a Personal Website

  1. A website is truly an electronic, virtual resume. It's a way for you to display what you are capable of doing, where you've done it, and why someone should hire you. This is really important. No one wants to hire a general contractor that does not work on houses. The same logic applies here. Customers want to purchase from companies they trust, and most of the time, that comes from seeing that company in action over a period of time via their website or social media profiles.
  2. It's hard to accurately describe what a personal website is because they only look like websites. They could be a blog, a portfolio, a gallery, a guide to New York City — most people choose one thing for their site to be about. The best way to find out what kind of site you want for yourself is by making one.
  3. Personal websites are so valuable to my personal and professional life. I've created my own blog, e-commerce store, helped many friends and family members with their blogs, and written hundreds of blog posts over the years. If you want to get noticed, you need a personal website. Think of your resume as the business card you hand out in person and your website as the versions of those business cards digitally stored on a server. Your site is a great way for employers to learn more about you. Make sure that what they find on your site is everything they've been hoping for.
  4. The number one thing you can do for your career, besides using social media, is to create an online presence. An online presence can be anything from a blog to a LinkedIn profile to an email address that you give out to people. In this article, we are going to focus on creating a web page called your personal website. There are several reasons why you should create a personal website. There are tons of reasons why you should learn to code at least one programming language, and this is just one of them. Knowing the basics of a coding language is so valuvaluable when it comes to job opportunities1: Get a Domain Name and Hosting.

Once you have your domain name picked out, it's now time to choose where you're going to host it. A web host is basically where the files of your website are stored. There are many web hosting services out there, and each has its own pros and cons.

I recommend using providers that offer custom web design and development packages. If you don't already have your domain name, head on over to Google Domains and see if there's a domain available that you like.

A domain name is pretty important as it's the first in-roads you have into your online identity. Whether you're trying to get noticed online or get more leads, having a memorable domain name can give you that extra edge over your competition. Once you've secured your domain name, the next step is to pick a host.

That's the company that handles storage and all of those technical things for your site. Whether you need to start a blog or fix one of those broken, nothing beats this step-by-step guide. If you're a newbie, there are usually some 30-day free trials out there to get set up as soon as possible — we'll mention a couple of them below so you can choose which one works best.

Discover how to create a successful blog easily and what programs and services to follow. Also useful for those who nurture their unprofitable side.

Step 1: Install WordPress and Set Up Your Site

With WordPress, you have access to the most popular Content Management System in the world. Many of the biggest websites and brands use WordPress: TechCrunch, CNN, Sony Music, Weight Watchers, MTV, Samsung, and thousands more.

In fact, this year, WordPress was downloaded over 60 million times, making it by far the most popular CMS in existence. WordPress is a very powerful Content Management System (CMS) which means it gives you the ability to easily create and update pages, posts, widgets, menus, etc., on your website.

With it, you can create a professional and clean-looking site. There are many great content management systems (CMS) out there. Whether you're running a blog or building an online store, you have plenty of options to choose from.

The most popular CMSs today are Drupal & WordPress. In this post, I want to discuss some of the main things to consider before choosing your CMS. After installing WordPress, you will be guided through the next steps of Configuration and Post Upload. This will take you several minutes to complete. You will also be given a Username and Password.

Step 2: Customize Your Website's Design with a Theme

The number of themes to choose from can be overwhelming, and it's important to find one that will represent your brand but also have all the features you need. Here is a list of 12 WordPress Themes which I found excellent for small businesses and startups.

In this post, I'm going to give a little overview of what a WordPress theme is and share some of my recommendations for the best places to find themes. We'll also take a look at some other features you can get from premium WordPress themes.

4 Great Theme Recommendations

All above blog posts begin with a brief structured introduction to the topic and include a catchy subheadline. This way, when you decide to write on such topics, if you use these templates, they will help you with content much quicker.

  1. Simple
  2. Lovecraft
  3. Ultra
  4. Verbosa

WordPress has a lot of plugins that can be installed to help manage and improve your website. Some of them can manage content, optimize images, or speed up your website.

Here are 7 WordPress plugins that I have been using lately that you might want to use on your next site! It's quite a bit of work, but you'll be rewarded with a completed website that you or your clients will love. If you enjoyed reading this article, we encourage you to bookmark it and share it with your friends.

Step 3: Improve Your Site with Plugins and Widgets

Ensuring your site is compatible with all the latest web standards can be a daunting task – it's easy to miss something. But several plugins will do this job for you automatically.

There are some plugins that you'll want to have installed on all of your WordPress sites. These include installing a security plugin, creating contact forms, setting up social media sharing buttons and Page Builders. A useful and powerful plugin that allows you to change how your site looks to search engines and for humans.

You can control which pages are shown in search engines or search results on social networks. Also useful if you have a built-in caching plugin as this will allow you to clear cache without clearing the unknown tags.
