Pre-Med vs Pre-Eng vs ICS: Which To Choose After Matric

SHARE:

Are you confused which field or subjects you should select in 1st year after you've done matric? Should It should be Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, or ICS, we have the best answer.

Selecting the right subjects, at the right time, in the right way makes your future brighter in Pakistan especially after the announcing the result of 10th class either it is of FBISE or Punjab Boards.

But

If the wrong field is chosen, then it makes your whole life miserable.

In the Pakistani society, our parents decide our fields whereas our heart says something different.

Every student is unique, he has some talent that doesn't exist in other students even he has topped the exams or failed in more than 3 subjects.

The world has seen many people who failed in many subjects and earning more than a billion dollars and they have strong respect too in the eye of the world, not even in family, city, state, and country.

Thomas Edison's teachers told him he was "too stupid to learn anything."
And do you know? Thomas Edison had invented more than a thousand things in his life, even the bulb that is running in your room.

Here is the field which you can choose after Matric:

1. Pre-Medical:

In Pakistan, more than 90 percent students choose Pre-Medical to become an MBBS doctor.

But only 8 percent students can take admission in the government medical colleges.

This field demands a lot of hard work and dedication if you wanna be a doctor.

For this, you have to study the following subjects:
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Islamiyat
  • Pak Studies
  • Urdu
  • English
The most difficult subjects for the Pre-Medical students are Chemistry and Physics.

According to Pakistan Today, more than 70% girls and 30% boys compete for MDCAT Entry Test every year.
NoteMDCAT was previously called MCAT. UHS renamed it to MDCAT. MCAT stands for the Medical College Admission Test. MDCAT stands for the Medical & Dental College Admission Test. Perhaps it was done to have more respect for the BDS students.

Every year the merit of MDCAT is increasing, but the last year 2016, the merit closed at 88.6%.

That was a disappointed for many students because who got 88.5 were not able to take admission in government medical colleges.

Due to this high merit, a lot of students decided to repeat, more than 20,000 students will be repeaters this year.

Do you know? 55-thousand students take the MDCAT, and only 8%  (3500-4000 students) pass the test and become an MBBS and BDS doctor.

It is expected that more than 60,000 students would take the test in 2017, it may increase merit even more.

It is also expected that MDCAT 2017 would be tough because the previous one was RATTA-BASE, that's why, students who were good at this got great marks.

Now the MDCAT Entry Test would be conceptual base, it means, you have to work harder.

Should You Select Pre-Medical for Becoming a Doctor?

Infographics on Should You Select Pre-Medical
Infographics on Should You Select Pre-Medical
It is a good question for the students who are passionate to become a doctor.

It is a fact that not everyone can become a doctor, the pass percentage is 8%. It means among the 100 students only 8 students are selected.  And if 10 students take the MDCAT, then only 1 is selected.

Seriously, I am not threatening you not to select it. I love to live in reality, not in the dream world.

Please read the infographics that I made above.

You have to check yourself, you have identify your weakness and strength, you have to ask your heart and brain either you can do or not.

If the brain and the heart give you different answer, then you can't do. You must have confidence in yourself, yes, you can.

You should not think I can't get a seat among 4000 other students. You just need a one seat to be a doctor, you need to fight for one seat only.

What If I Don't Want to Become a Doctor?

If you've done F.Sc in Pre-Medical to select other fields like Biotechnology, Microbiology, DVM etc, then you can select these fields in famous universities of Pakistan if you get above 78% aggregate via MDCAT.

Yes, you have to the UHS MDCAT in order to take admission for these fields in the famous universities of Punjab like Univesity of Agriculture (Faisalabad), University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (Lahore) and many others.

Here you can read my article on:

Take the help of this article, and select the field you want.

Because these fields are made due to the requirements of the modern world, that's why, these fields exist all over the world, and of course, in Pakistan.

Not everyone can become a doctor, you can earn more money, respect and happiness in other fields.

I gave an example of my elder brother who is an officer of grade 17 at Primary and Secondary Health Department after being rejected from MDCAT Entry Test.

He did B.Sc (Hons) Microbiology at University of Agriculture  and got a gold medal, then he did M.Phil Microbiology and Molecular Chemistry at the University of Punjab.
In short, you should select this field if you're a hardworking, and passionate student who love to think beyond the four walls. For the students who have strong self-control, and depress their desires that can destroy them like excess use of smartphone and watching TV. For the students who love to help the poor, not to make just money.

About Aggregate System of MDCAT- Will You Be Selected For MBBS?

You must have knowledge of MDCAT aggregate:
  • 10% SSC Marks
  • 40% HSSC Marks
  • 50% MDCAT
By the above aggregate, you have to get above 86-89%.

The question comes into mind, how many marks you need to get?

You can adjust the formula, do math yourself.

For example, in order to get 88%:
  • 800 Marks in SSC, 10% of 850 is  80
  • 950 Marks in HSSC, 40% of 950 is 380
  • 900 Marks in MDCAT, 50% of 900 is 450
Now calculate 80+380+450=910

Now 910/1100x100=82%

Now, you come to know that 82% is not enough to get admission.

It means you have to get 1000 marks in MDCAT, 900 in SSC and 950 marks in HSSC in order to get admission in government MBBS college:

Now it would be:

80+400+500=980

980/1100x100=89%.

You can apply the same formula to adjust your HSSC marks.

2. Pre-Engineering:

It is the most demanded field for the Pakistan boys students. It needs less hard work as compared to Pre-Medical.

In Pre-Medical, you have to get above 86% to take admission, and sometimes more as it was the case with previous year 88.6; but, you can get admission in Engineering University if you get above 80% easily.

You have to study the following subjects:

1. Chemistry
2. Physics
3. Math
4. Islamiyat
5. Pak Studies
6. English
7. Urdu

All the subjects are the same except Maths. It also demands hard work if you want to take admission in PIEAS, NUST, and UET.

Some of Top Engineering Universities which have their own Entry Test includes,

National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)

Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS)

AIR University Islamabad

FAST University

International Islamic University

If you want to take admission in NUST, you can check its aggregate

  •     NUST Entry Test – 75 %
  •     HSSC / A level / Equivalent / DAE or HSSC Part-I – 15 %
  •     Matriculation / O Level* – 10 %
It means you can get admission in NUST if you take the NET exceptionally.

3. ICS -  Intermediate of Computer Science:

In this field, you will read the following subjects:

1. Physics
2. Maths
3. English
4. Urdu
5. Pak Studies
6. Islamiat
7. Computer Science

Unfortunately, in the Pakistani society, ICS doesn't hold much respect

According to me, ICS is much better than Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering.

Because it is the internet that is the 19 trillion dollars market.

It is the internet you're reading this article, it's the internet I made a blog to help the Pakistani students

It's the future of the world thanks to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Deep Learning.

Currently, in the world, the 2nd hottest job is of the web developer.

Because every new business needs new a website where their customers can be connected, and they can help the customer for the best experience in order to generate more money.

If you have extreme interest in computer and the internet, then this field is for you. It is the field I am 100%, you will never be a jobless.

Because Pakistan is the 3rd countries where most freelances exist, and according to Propakistani, 150,000 freelances earning is more than 1000 million dollars (1 billion).

Because if you have skills, you can earn money on Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer and Guru.

In this field, there is no Chemistry and Biology.

This field will have the highest demand in Pakistan in the next 5 years. This situation now exists in India where parents feel proud if his son is selected in the IT fields.

There are more than 50 fields you can select.

You can get success in computer scien only if you have interest, you have curiosity how the internet work,s you have curiosity how many transistors are in the Intel i9 and you're curiosity how a website works.

If you are studying this field with no aim in mind and no interest, you will end up disappointed.
