How to Get High Marks In NUST Entry Test (NET) Tips From a NUSTIAN

Students with high marks in matriculation and intermediate often struggle to get good marks when it comes to NUST Entry Test. Many of them, waste their two, three years trying to get admission in NUST.

If you are looking forward to getting high marks in NET or you have already failed to do so and want to improve your score, then you are at the right place.

Here are some of the reasons of failures along with their solutions.

1) Understanding the Test

The most important thing about NUST (NET) is that students don't understand the concept behind this test.

The NUST Entry Test is purely based on concepts, and almost all the questions are conceptual and logical.

The students must understand this fact that the test will be very logical and conceptual.

The second thing is that the questions are based on the concepts that we have already studied in our intermediate but the approach to every question is logical, and the difficulty level is raised a little - most of the time a lot high.

Did you know? You can get 80-90 marks without even preparation in the NET!

Therefore, one hardly sees a straightforward question in NET which we often see in Board Examination or our college tests.

In NET. Each MCQ carries 1 mark so total 200 marks.
There are total 200 MCQs and time for it is 180 Minutes or 3 hours.

Mathematics  = 80
Physics          = 60
Chemistry      = 30
English           = 20
IQ                   = 10

As there are 80 MCQs for Mathematics and 60 for Physics,
Total of 2 subjects = 80+60= 140
Total Marks = 200

Percentage of 2 subjects = 140/200 x 100 = 70%

It is quite evident from the above result that you should more focus on Mathematics and Physics for NET because they will be key subjects for your selection in NUST.
If you get 65 in Mathematics and 45 in Physics you have 110 Marks right on the card. You'll only have to score 30-35 marks to get admission from the remaining 3 subjects i.e Chemistry, English and IQ.

Have you ever thought why there is no negative marking in NET?

The reason is that because the test is conceptual and logical so the students with no concepts can barely get 80-100 marks.But for admission, one must at least score 135.

2) Preparing Course Books

The majority of the students are advised to read course books only. This advice applies to a person who has sharp and logical mind plus who is a conceptual person.

But if you are a student, who has weak concepts, then you need to do something extra other than preparing the books.

Remember, reading course book does not mean Rattalizing the entire books but reading to make concepts only.

If you have weak concepts, then you should go through past papers and try to learn some tricks and shortcuts to solve questions.

You see there is always an easy path to the destination then you need to find that path.

Other than this, you need to practice more than those who have good concepts. This will enhance your chances of getting high marks.

You can find, a lot of material related NET in different Facebook groups, you can also find past NET MCQs there.

You can go to files option of any Facebook Group like this and find out material.

3) Start Early

As I have already mentioned above that NET is a conceptual test.

Therefore, it requires a long term preparation.

Those who build good concepts throughout their matriculation and intermediate level, they often go through the test in the first attempt.

But those who prepare just to get high marks in board examinations and prepare according to that, sometimes struggle in Entry Tests.

So, start preparation early, and do not skip those chapters and concepts which are unimportant in the light of board examination.
The Unimportant chapters for board examinations are the most important chapters for NUST Entry Test (NET).

4) Test Day

You should try to select morning time for the test as it is the best time when the mind is generally fresh after sleep. Here are some of the things you should do on the test.

1) Relax and do not worry about the test.
2) Do not compare yourself with others. You are better than others in your own way.
3) Do not panic after seeing other students preparing for the test.
4) Do not study for the test, just prepare yourself mentally for the test.
5) Keep your confidence high and believe in yourself that you can do it.
The entire two years are for NET preparation while the day before the test and the test day is for mental preparation.

5) During Test

I have seen many good and hard working students getting fail in NET just because they did not do well only during the test.

Some of the students often have good preparation and are very confident, but on the test day, they either get panic by seeing other students or seeing a difficult question during the test.

Here are some of the Do's and Don't during the test.

1) Keep an eye on watch at short intervals this will enable you to manage time properly.
2) If you are stuck on any question, do not panic, just select the best-suited answer and put that question in the review and move forward.Later at the end, you can go to review and ponder over it.
3) Solve all problems with your mind open. Do not tick any option blindly if even you are 100% sure.

Special Tip:
For example, there is a question that mass of a body is 5 kg and force is 20N.Find the acceleration?
So, in options, they will also put answers which are obtained using incorrect formula.

F=ma  is (correct formula)
a=F/m = 20/5= 4 m/s2
The other options will be,
a=Fm= 20x5= 100
a=m/F = 5/20= 0.25
so options can be like this,
a) 4
b) 100
c) 0.25

The purpose of telling this is that they also put answers which are obtained using an incorrect method or incorrect use of formula, so sometimes when we put the wrong formula and get the answer we say our answer is matching with an option given and we say that we did it.But in fact, that answer is incorrect. So you should be careful while solving a question.

Keeping yourself calm and relax during the test and solving questions with an open and fresh mind is the key to success.
