What Does PMS Stand For?
PMS stands for Provincial Management Services. On 17th January 2014, upon the notification by S&GAD, Government of Punjab- Pakistan, PMS came into existence. Provincial governments established it with the aim of improving the service structure of bureaucracy in the provinces. The candidates who pass act as important tools in the top level of bureaucracy in the provinces and thus perform their duties at Tehsil, District, Division and Provincial level.
Which Authorities Conduct PMS?
Following Commissions of the provincial governments of Pakistan conduct this examination:-
- Punjab Public Service Commission PPSC
- Sindh Public Service Commission SPSC
- Balochistan Public Service Commission BPSC
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission KPSC
- Azad Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission AJKPSC
What Are the Parts of the PMS Exam?
PMS exam consists of following tests:-
- Written test
- Psychology test
- Interview
What Is the Reward of Passing PMS Exams?
The person passing these tests will be called PMS Officer. He will be rewarded with a government job as First Class Officer (Grade 17 ). The Scale 17 Officers are promoted to Scale 18, Scale 19 and Grade 20 as per notified Service Rules called PMS Rules, 2004.
They are posted as
- Section Officer
- Assistant Commissioner
- Magistrate
- Deputy Secretary
- Additional Secretary
- DCO
- DG
- Commissioner
- Secretary or any other equivalent post of their grade.
How Do PMS and PCS Differ?
- Provincial Civil Service PCS and Provincial Management Service PMS are the same in terms of services.
- PCS services have merged with PMS service.
- PCS has two ties :- PCS- Executive and Provincial Secretariat Service PSS
- In both, the officers are selected through examinations conducted by the Public Service Commission PSC.
When Did PCS and PMS Merge?
In 2004, PCS Executive and PCS Secretariat were merged as under the part of Provincial Management Service PMS.
It includes all the posts which were previously part of PCS and PSS.
The number of posts for PMS have also been increased.
