Why 1st Year is More Important than 2nd Year in Pakistan?

How many times have you heard that 7th class is more important than 8th class, and the same goes for 9th class as it is the most critical class of your life?

I know you have heard a lot of times.

But in reality, the marks of matriculation don't matter much rather it helps to get admission into your dream college most of the time at the intermediate level. It is explained later in the article.

If you have just started your college or waiting for admission in college then this is the best article before starting your college lest you make extreme mistakes at F.Sc level.

When we compare SSC with HSSC there are a lot of differences between both stages of education in our country.

Unfortunately, most of the students don't understand this change or shift of level and end up getting very low marks in their intermediate result. :(

Moving into the college, a student must make himself realize that now he is at a college and the board is considering him a college student and they expect more mature answers from you.

The mistakes which examiners might have ignored in SSC examinations, will now not ignore and the student will be penalized for such little mistakes.
Now at this stage, you should be able to give better answers and must not commit little mistakes such as spelling mistakes, skipping words, incomplete answers, useless details and many other minor mistakes.

Students don't realize this thing and make same mistakes in intermediate as they did at SSC and still got good marks.

But since here examiners don't ignore such mistakes and hence students get low marks.

If you will be able to understand this thing that now you are a college student and your level of education has been raised then you'll definitely score high at HSSC level.

Having said this, let's come to our main topic:

Why HSSC-I is more important than HSSC-II, after taking exams of SSC-I, we don't have to worry about our admission in any college since admissions in almost all the colleges open, passing matriculation.

But in the case of HSSC, it is completely different.

Here are some of the reasons for it.

In the case of admission in engineering universities, many of the top universities calculate their merit on the basis of the result of HSSC-I only.

Take an example of NUST, you can apply for NUST after HSSC-I and your merit will be calculated on the basis of HSSC-I only.

In the case of admission in engineering universities, many of the top universities calculate their merit on the basis of the result of HSSC-I only.

If you wait for the result of HSSC 2, till then the admission will be closed.

Last date for admission in NUST is usually in June whereas the result of HSSC-II is announced in August.

There are many other universities which do the same such as PIEAS, AIR, GIKI, FAST and many others.

You can also apply for NAT (NTS) which is also accepted in many universities like COMSATS and IST.

They only require 60% marks in HSSC 2 for final admission and HSSC-II marks are not considered while calculating merit.

Only government universities such as UETs and Medical Colleges calculate their merit only the basis of entire intermediate marks.

Obviously one would never want to waste his one year to wait for admission in a university.

Therefore, if you don't get good marks in HSSC-I, then you might not have good chances of admission in university as compared to a person who has good marks in HSSC-I.

Then you might have to get high marks in Entry Test of the university which is generally considered as a tough task.

SSC stands for Secondary School Certificate whereas as HSSC stands for Higher Secondary School Certificate.

From the abbreviation, one can clearly see the word Higher with SSC is the prefix at the college level.

This higher word demands a higher maturity level of the student hence requires a higher level answers in the examination.

If anyone ignores this higher and attempts his/her papers in the same way as he did at SSC level, he will definitely not get as good marks as he got in matriculation.

You can read the following articles to get good marks:

So, a student must raise his level of attempting paper, must not make silly mistakes, must improve his paper presentation.

In HSSC-I, the books are very lengthy and the concepts are explained in details.

So it requires more time to study.

I'll explain in upcoming lines how we are left with less time.

So due to a mountainous high course and less time we end up skipping topics and then chapter for our final exams and our HSSC-I, result drops for 92% to 78% (in my case).

I have seen majority of the students getting more than 90% in Matriculation struggle to maintain their marks in HSSC-I. The reason for this has already been told to you in the above lines.

Since many of the students do not get marks which they were expecting in HSSC-I, especially students who are doing Pre-Medical and require high percentage, they are advised to repeat HSSC-I in order to get high marks.

If they would have got high marks then they would have not wasted one year. This is a very heartbreaking decision for a student to waste one complete year of his life and to study again those topics which he has already gone through for hours.

So by getting good marks in HSSC-I, you are saving one year of your life. So you must save your year.

If you have good marks in HSSC-1, then you can go for study in HSSC 2 will full motivation.

You will feel good and relaxed as you will have ample time for HSSC-II and Entry Tests.

You will attempt exams with confidence and you'll have a better idea of how to attempt paper at HSSC level.

On the other side of the coin, if you get low marks in HSSC 1, it will take out all the motivation you have and you will end up failing in HSSC 2 to get high marks.

You will also be worried about your admission in University and you will not feel confident to attempt Entry Tests.

You'll think about improving subjects and repeating a year and in progress, you won't get the required result in HSSC-II as well.

In Pakistan, students generally consider passing matriculation a milestone, it is by far a milestone after the struggle of ten long years, so in order to celebrate this victory they don't think about whats coming ahead and to them this is the end of education.

In reality, this is not the case, so they waste their summer vacation doing nothing.

As the new session in college starts in the mid of August, and as it takes sometime to come back to studies and to adjust in a new atmosphere so, if we cut one and a half month for this adjustment then we are left with only 7 months for studying the entire HSSC part 1.
As already discussed above, due to this shortage of time and panic, we skip entire chapters in our books and this leads us to failure in getting marks of our requirements.
