What Are Paying Cadets (PCs): Everything You Need To Know



Paying Cadets are those students who study in Engineering (NUST etc) or Medical Universities (AMC or NUMS etc) or Colleges on Army Reserved Seats. They are called Paying Cadets because they pay their fee, but their fee is half or less than other students who are not paying cadets.

Types OF Paying Cadets

There are two types of PCs:

1. Medical Paying Cadets:

Those who get admission in Medical College or Universities.

2. Engineering Paying Cadets:

Those who get admission in Engineering College or Universities


1. You have to apply for NUST Test (NET) for admission in Engineering Category and NUMS Entry Test for admission in MEDICAL Category.

2. You have to fill paying cadet form and send it to GHQ by Pakistan Post or If you live in Rawalpindi/Islamabad you can submit it by hand at GHQ Gate No 3.
3. If you are applying for Paying Cadet and waiting for the 2nd year result then you will have to send your 2nd year result to GHQ when it will be declared.


1.If you get selected on Open Merit (Read FAQs) then Paying Cadet seat will be canceled.
2. If you get selected as a Technical Cadet (TC) by apply ISSB.
3.All the other criteria of ineligibility are given in PC form.

1. Where can I get admission form?
You can get admission form from GHQ Gate No 3, all the station headquarters in your city, Soldier boards. You can also get it through OAS System in your father’s unit from W&R DTE. I am sharing an old form of the year 2015 as a sample. You need to get a new form if you want to apply. The old form is NOT accepted. For old form Click here.
2. What is open merit?
If you apply for NET and get high marks so that you get selected by NUST in any of the fields (except CS) for admission. This admission is called Open Merit admission.  
3.Who can apply for Paying Cadet (PC)?
Only those students can apply for Paying Cadet Scheme whom father/mother is serving or retired in the army and in defense services like MES.
4.What is last date for sending admission forms?
The last date for admission in Engineering Category is usually 7th July of the year of admission and for Medical Category its 31st August.The date may not be the same every year as it varies.
5.What is the difference between PC and ASC?

There is no different in PC and ASC, both are Paying cadets.The only difference is that ASCs pay fees semester wise whereas PCs pay monthly.
6.Do PCs serve in Army after graduation?
All the PCs have a bond with the army that they will voluntarily serve in the army after graduation for 3 years.For this, they have to sign a surety bond on their admission as a PC.
7.What are the privileges that PCs avail?
They get the subsidy from GHQ so, their fee is approximately half as the other students who are studying on open merit.
8.In which institutes of NUST do PCs study? Do they study in NUST H12?
No, Paying Cadets do not go to H12 campus.They only go to army colleges, for example, EME, MCS, and MCE, etc. and Medical PCs go to AMC, CMH Medical College Lahore and other CMHs.
9.Do PCs Serve in Army after Degree? What is VMS?
VMS stands for Voluntary Military Service.All the PCs have a bond that they will serve in Army after graduation for 3 years.They have to go through an initial physical test and an interview and then a final medical test. The chances for selection are very bright provided the student is medically fit.
10.What is the fee for PCs/ASCs?
All the PCs pay their fee on a monthly basis, and it depends on the rank of their father.It can be around Rs. 8000 to Rs. 15000 depending on the rank.The higher the rank, the higher is the fee.
On the other hand, if you are selected as an ASC, you’ll have to pay semester wise. You’ll have to pay the full fee of NUST, then you’ll get the subsidy from GHQ, this also depends on the rank of your father the higher the rank, the less the amount you’ll get. For example, if your father is Subedar you might get 65000 and if Havildar more than 70000. This is just a rough idea figures are not accurate.After getting the subsidy, your fee will become approximately 30,000 per semester.
11.How many marks do I need in NUST Entry Test (NET) to get selected as PC/ASC?
You must score at least 110+ if your father is serving and if your father is retired you must score more than 125 in NET.However, on the other hand, you should have merit number (Merit no.) less than 7000 if your father is serving and if your father is retired your merit number must be less than 3500.(These figures are given in view of last two years merit only).These figures can vary depending on the number of students applying that year and the overall merit.To see last year’s merit list, you can visit my group Paying Cadets on Facebook.
12.How much aggregate do I need to get selected as Medical PC in NUMS/AMC?
In view of last year’s merit, you must have aggregate more than 83 to get selected as PC in AMC in any of the two fields including MBSS and BDS.

13.My Father is in PAF/NAVY can I apply for PC Scheme?
Yes. You can apply for PC Scheme; however, if your father is serving in PAF you have to apply through AHQ (NOT GHQ), and if your father is serving in NAVY, you will have to apply in NAVAL Education DTE in order to get selected as a PC.
14.Is there any seat for Defence paid/MES/PMAD?
Yes. There is 1 seat for each Defense Paid, MES and PMAD.
15.Can girls apply for PC Scheme? How many seats are there for girls?
Yes. Girls can also apply for PC Scheme, But there are limited seats for girls.There are 16 seats in total for girls, and they can apply in only 4 disciplines, i.e., Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Telecom Engineering. There are 8 seats for retired category 2 in each discipline and 8 for serving category.
